Production Story
In late 2010, producer Sammy Sarzoza of Kitbash ltd. acquired The Red Dress screenplay from screenwriter David W. Pollard. The screenplay was written for a competition put on by the Twin Cities based screenwriting organization the Screenwriter's Workshop.
Throughout early 2011, Sammy Sarzoza begin pre-production finding the cast and crew to make the vision he had for the film come to life. After months of searching, he found many great artists that were excited about the project and willing to lend their talents to the project. The first was collaborator and cinematographer Andre Durand. Soon after, Sammy Sarzoza cast Nathan Tymoshuk and Ladonna Craelius for the lead roles.
Production began in July 2011 in Lakeville, MN. It was shot over the course of two days in a set constructed inside of a hockey rink shut down for the summer. Set construction was led and designed by Gabe Wimmer and was fully constructed over 5 days with the help of Rio DeGarcia-Sarzoza, Issac Martin, and Cesar Sarzoza.
Due to the production of The Red Dress being entirely self financed by Kitbash ltd. it suffered setbacks once principal photography ended and spent over 24-months in post-production. During that time, elements were built bit by bit from color correction to original score. Many post production elements were graciously provided by Nick Micheal from Critical Focus HD.
The delay was well worth the wait as we have put together a film with all the elements to make it the best it can be; culminating with a song by nationally know recording artist Dessa.
The Red Dress was completed in August 2013, and made its world premiere at the Twin Cities Film Fest in Minneapolis, MN. It will now be submitted to various national and international film festivals and competitions.
